RELIABILITY(1) failure behaviour RELIABILITY(1)

reliability - The first design rule: playback outranks everything else.

Rule
when the disk, the network or a file misbehaves, optional work gives way first and says what it dropped
Blast radius
a failed decode, copy or lookup ruins one track, never the set
Fallbacks
the waveform cache, the recorder, downloads and the log all give way before the decks do
Counters
underruns, skipped effect blocks and dropped recorder samples, readable during the set, expected to be zero

A file that will not decode ruins one file. An export that cannot place one track places the other 39 and reports the count. A disk falling behind a recording drops recording samples, never audible ones, and says how many when you stop. A missing cue device changes nothing on the main route. collier gives up, by name, on work that stops making progress.

We rehearsed every failure above before release. Audible work keeps playing. Optional work gives way. collier tells you what gave way, by name, when it happens.

Backquote opens the console: the running log and the audio counters. Underruns, effect blocks the chain skipped, converter failures, dropped recorder samples and late wake-ups for the buffer thread. They should all read zero. Their purpose is the moment one stops reading zero.

The same honesty runs through the interface: a refused sync press names its reason, and kundali explains every pick.
